Data Notes
Data Source: State Fire Training Academy Facility Use Reports
Measure Definition: Number of individuals who enrolled in classes at the FTA.  An individual enrolled in one class is considered one student.
Target Rationale: Recruit Academy enrollment is expected to go down so total number of classes offered would increase.  This would result in a higher number of total students trained.

 Summary Analysis

  • Total enrollment at the FTA for the third quarter is slightly lower than same as this time last year:  2010=1633; 2011=1604
    • Projected number of students trained at the FTA for the third quarter of CY 2011 = 1257
    • Actual number of students trained at the FTA for the third quarter of CY 2011 = 1604
  • WSP exceeded the projected number of students trained this quarter at the FTA due to the increased number of students enrolled in the Recruit Academy and an increased number of multiple day courses.  FTA is on target to meet the yearly projection of students trained.
  • The Fire Training Academy is unique as it is the only facility in the state that offers the range of live-fire training experiences using Class A (wood) and Class B Fuels (gasoline, diesel, propane and jet fuel).
  • Live-fire training is as important to a fire fighter as weapon training is to a law enforcement officer.
  • The cumulative target for CY 2011 training is 5808 students.
