This measure is part of ADSA’s core business requirement to protect the health and safety of vulnerable adults. Meeting the response times for investigating reported abuse and neglect are crucial to the state’s safety net for vulnerable adults.
The percentage of investigations open more than 90 days has declined slightly, dropping to 24% in the first quarter of 2010.
Financial exploitation and self-neglect cases continue to be the majority of investigations that take longer than 90 days to resolve, often due to difficulties with records retrieval from financial institutions, as well as pending guardianship and fidicuciary actions.
Legislation that passed in 2010 is designed to encourage banks to turn over financial information to law enforcement and the Department (SSB 6202).
