Summary Analysis
Children in DSHS custody who are 6 to 12 years old have the longest average length of stay of 485 days (or 15.9 months) from SFY 2005 through SFY 2009.
Overall, the younger children (ages 6-12) had a longer length of stay as compared to 13-17 year old children, regardless of custody and legal status.
The longer length of stay for the 6-12 years old may be influenced by the complexity and severity of the child's needs and challenges to identify the appropriate treatment and living arrangement after discharge.
Of 416 CLIP admissions from SFY 2005 through SFY 2009:
16% were children under 13 years old
64% were involuntarily committed
13% were under state custody (all ages)
